About you
You recently qualified as an accountant (1yr+ PQE). You may be a Finance Manager looking for your first role as a Financial Controller within a similar sized company, or you could currently be working in a small/medium-sized practice looking for your first move into industry.
About the role
Reporting to the Director of Finance you will be joining an award-winning business at an exciting time of our evolution as we focus on scaling up our finance function to support significant business growth. You will play an integral role in improving our monthly reporting capability and ensure robust processes and controls are in place to enable timely, appropriate and accurate reporting. The position is for a 6 month FTC initially, with the opportunity to make this permanent.
What you’ll be responsible for
Lead the production of the month-end process and analysis and commentary for the management deck
Review the p&l, making recommendations on margin enhancement and cost savings initiatives
Lead the team on process efficiencies and controls to enable accurate and timely reporting at month-end (P&L and Balance Sheet)
Line management with 1 direct report
Lead the accounts receivable, accounts payable and payroll process
Responsible for the monthly preparation of financial information for submission to external parties
Alongside the Assistant Financial Accountant, improve and maintain a weekly cashflow for near-term and monthly cashflow for longer-term projections
Review the financial policies for Elder to ensure these are fit for purpose, have an appropriate level of control, without constraining the required agility of a fast-growing fast-paced business
Work alongside the Director of Finance to help complete the annual statutory audit (in progress), with support from the Assistant Financial Accountant
Lead on external statutory filings and payments (VAT/PAYE/P11D’s)
Support in any due diligence for future fundraising activities
Ad-hoc requests and project work as required
Requirements
Highly driven with an execution focus, a strong sense of urgency and a belief in our Mission
Qualified Accountant (ACA/CIMA/ACCA) with 1 year+ PQE
Able to lead month-end processes (AR/AP, payroll, balance sheet reconciliations)
Experience of supporting the statutory audit and engagement with external auditors - note: this will be well underway prior to joining but some support may be required - desirable
Technically proficient, good working knowledge of accounting standards
Experience of using Xero - desirable
Tax compliance experience (VAT/PAYE/Corporation tax) - desirable
Experience of producing management accounts providing insight which drives action
An understanding of ‘what good looks like’
Able to demonstrate how you have enhanced processes and controls in a fast-paced environment
Organised, able to plan activities and deliver to the agreed plan
A problem solver - able to articulate what the issue is and explore and recommend solutions
Inquisitive in approach, constantly challenging the way we operate
Excellent levels of written and verbal communication evidenced by exposure to working closely with senior management
A desire to ensure that Elder is set up to enable us to to scale efficiently
