About the role

Elder is continuing to develop its product offer and we need to build our own legal function, focusing on a deep understanding of the Regulated Clinical Care sector and with an ability to manage legal issues around Employment, Commercial law and GDPR using external counsel as necessary. This is a unique opportunity to shape the legal framework of an industry category and this role will add value to our highly talented leadership team from day one.

As the Head of Legal, you will report to our COO.

What you’ll be responsible for

  • Building and executing a complete regulatory compliance strategy for the Elder business, covering all the bases of the business: from clinical compliance with the Care Act & CQC regulations through to employment best practice and GDPR.
  • Thinking proactively about all the legal angles and aspects of Elder’s business to turn regulatory compliance in to a source of competitive advantage for Elder.
  • Working closely with the Clinical Care, Carer, Customer and People teams to support the development and delivery of our training, monitoring and due diligence strategies across the business.
  • Developing and maintaining the strongest relationships with the CQC, the Scottish Care Inspectorate and the Care Inspectorate, Wales, working alongside the CEO and COO.
  • Building a network of legal, regulatory and compliance connections & contacts across all of our UK partnership clients in local councils, authorities and clinical commissioning groups to support the delivery of our regional strategy.
  • Supporting the Exec Team with legal aspects of the commercial negotiations, on an as needs basis. 
  • Working alongside the Exec Team and other senior leaders to develop Elder’s public reputation as a thought leader in the Health Tech and Elderly Care space.
  • Owning the company’s legal strategy and its relationships with its external law firms and counsel.
  • Managing the company’s legal planning and budget, working closely with the Finance Team.
  • Maintaining a legally compliant and legally focused culture that balances risk against the speed of delivery and builds competitive advantage. 
  • Partnering with the rest of Elder’s leadership team to develop and execute Elder’s business strategy. 
  • Working cross-functionally across the business to leverage the varied skill sets of others to constantly improve the team and achieve the team's strategic goals.

Need to have

  • English/Scottish qualified solicitor with minimum 5 years Post Qualified Experience in the UK’s Regulatory Clinical Care sector. 
  • GDPR, Employment and Commercial experience would be an added benefit but are not essential.
  • In-house experience - whether a secondment or otherwise - would be of benefit.
  • You have proven leadership skills; 
    • You enjoy coaching and developing others and setting them up for success
    • You have experience of and enjoy collaborating with key internal and external stakeholders in order to get results not only for your function but for Elder as whole
  • You’re highly motivated with an execution focus, a strong sense of urgency and a belief in our mission and vision
  • You can develop and execute strategic plans to achieve goals
  • You love tackling the most difficult of challenges and know how to get the best solutions
  • You deliver a customer experience like you expect to receive it – with excellence
  • You enjoy thinking outside of the box and bringing different perspectives to the table
